Historical Outline

1874 Bishop Williams establishes a small private school in Tsukiji.
1883 The school is named Rikkyo School.
1899 Renamed as Rikkyo Junior High School.
1922 Rikkyo is also accredited as a university under the University Order.
1923 Rikkyo Junior High School is moved to Ikebukuro due to a school building fire caused by the Great Kanto Earthquake.
1948 The old style Rikkyo Junior High School system is abolished as a result of educational system reform. Rikkyo Senior High School, Rikkyo Junior High School and Rikkyo Elementary School are established.
1960 Rikkyo Senior High School is moved to Niiza.
1964 Rikkyo Senior High School begins its first overseas study tour.
1969 Rikkyo Senior High School begins U.K. Summer School.
1985 One year overseas study to Episcopal High School in U.S.A. begins.
1990 Rikkyo Senior High School begins Summer Study Tour in Australia.
2000 Rikkyo Senior High School is renamed Rikkyo Niiza Senior High School and Rikkyo Junior High School is established in parallel.
2001 One year overseas study to Brighton Grammar School begins.
2014 Rikkyo Niiza Junior and Senior High School inaugurates the new Main Building, Gymnasium and St. Paul's Field.
